Traditional Southern Cooking – A Dinner
Southern cooking has had a heavy influence from all corners of the world! Join us in creating a memorable southern-style meal that includes crab dip, traditional cheese straws, gumbo, jambalaya, red beans and rice, buttermilk biscuits, cheese grits, pecan praline candy and traditional bread pudding with bourbon sauce. We may even add a few more recipes! Supply fee of $17 cash due to the instructor at class.

Laurel Severson
Instructor
Laurel Severson is a graduate of the University of Minnesota with a double major in Home Economics and Education. She has worked in businesses throughout her career focusing on food – beginning with editing a series of 12 international cookbooks, testing recipes, and editing a British cookbook. Laurel worked at 3M for 30 years supervising the executive dining room, a snack bar, employees buffet, conference dining rooms and the special events such as retirement parties and 25 year anniversary parties before transferring into hospital foodservice and then the hotel industry. Laurel currently works in many Community Education districts throughout the metro area teaching participation cooking classes. She has traveled extensively including living in the Philippines for one year and in London for two years. An avid collector of cookbooks, Laurel generously shares culinary tips with students. She entertains extensively in her 1882 home and is an energetic volunteer within her St. Paul community. For example, one volunteer project includes heading up the kitchen crew to feed 500 for a spaghetti supper fundraiser.
