Introduction to Metal Detecting and Treasure Hunting
Have you ever been intrigued by treasure hunting or metal detecting? Do those words bring you a sense of excitement and adventure? Ever seen someone metal detecting at a beach or park and think “I wonder what they are finding?” Then we have the class for you! Learn the basics of metal detectors, how they work and what different types are out there. During this intro class, you will learn the proper way to dig a plug, to retrieve a target as well as the etiquette of leaving things better than you found them at any site you visit. There will be actual recovered artifacts, coins and jewelry as well as metal detectors and equipment on display. Bring your questions, curiosity and sense of adventure with you as you learn about this exciting hobby! Students ages 12-17 are welcome to register with an adult.

Larry Homan
Instructor
Larry Homan has been in the hobby of metal detecting since 2013. He joined the Gopher State Metal Detecting Club in 2014 and served as vice president for 2 years (2015-2016). He helped organize group hunts as well as helped instruct new members in the club how to metal detect, both in 1:1 and group settings. He has a Facebook presence, sharing stories, tips and information about the hobby for the past 7 + years. He belongs to a network of seasoned metal detectorists and has hunted with some of the best guys in the hobby. He thoroughly enjoys metal detecting and wants to share his knowledge and enjoyment of the hobby with others.
