 n to swim in the American Red Cross Preschool Aquatics or Learn-to-Swim cou
 rses. It is not designed to teach children to become good swimmers or to su
 rvive in the water on their own.\n\nPrerequisites\n \n- No skill prerequisi
 tes.\n\n- Child must be at least 6 months old to enroll.\n\n- Parent or oth
 er caregiver must accompany each child into the water and participate in ea
 ch class. It can be a different person each time.\n\n \nLearning Objectives
  (Parent and Child Level 1 and 2 Combined):\n \n- Learn to ask for permissi
 on before entering the water.\n\n- Learn to expect adult supervision when n
 ear water.\n\n- Learn how to enter and exit the water in a safe manner.\n\n
 - Feel comfortable in the water.\n\n- Explore submerging to the mouth\, nos
 e and eyes completely.\n\n- Explore submerging in a rhythmic pattern comple
 tely.\n\n- Explore buoyancy on the front and back position.\n\n- Glide on t
 he front and back with assistance.\n\n- Perform combined stroke on front an
 d back with assistance.\n\n- Change body position in the water with support
 .\n\n- Learn basic water safety rules and how to avoid water hazards around
  the home.\n\n- Learn about the importance of wearing a life jacket and exp
 erience wearing one.\n\n- Learn how to stay safe in\, on and around the wat
 er\, including knowing how to stay safe in the sun and how to avoid recreat
 ional water illnesses.\n\n- Learn to look carefully before entering the wat
 er.\n\n- Learn how to call for help and the importance of knowing first aid
  and CPR.\n\n- Learn what to think about and do when exhausted or caught in
  a dangerous situation.
